My Sicily trip DAY 2

THURSDAY
Hoping that things will only get better and not worse, we met Giuseppe’s friend Piero for breakfast at a bar in town (Favara is such a small place that its center has just a few streets with shops and a square…)

Piero was known to me as ‘The depressed guy’. What I know is that he has been hiding away from everyone, they weren’t able to get in touch with him these past 2 years… However, he started to leave missed calls to Giuseppe these few months and we wondered what happened. So, when Giuseppe went back to Favara this time, he found out that Piero was involved with some Mafia’s business involuntarily, and the gang were insulting him. It scared the shit out of him and that’s why he became anti-social. Then, he realized that it’s better to have a normal life instead of hiding from them since he’s innocent and he knows NOTHING about these Mafias!! He has only been hanging out with the wrong group!

We had some great brioches at the bar. The 1st time I try brioche fill with pistachio cream and it’s delicious!

After breakfast, we had a ‘Favara city tour’ on scooter. He shown me where his parents grew up, his uncles and cousins’ houses.. They look actually like what we saw on HK series, classic ’back to the past - 20 years ago’ black and white scene. Abandoned residence and streets with graffiti’s…It was cool to see the south of Italy that 'pure' though!

We visited the castle of Favara as well. And according to our guide, there weren't any residence in Favara until the richest family (also the only family) gathered ‘criminal’ from other towns. When they have the men, they found that they need women as well. So they went to the nearest town called ARAGONA, and kidnapped the women, just like what the roman soldier did to Siberia women centuries ago… And that’s why people used to said that residence from Favara are bad people, because they have bad blood, or DNA, or whatever you want to say.. Hmm… good to know… Prehaps those ladies on the train are right..*hahA*

We had a super good Granita (Grated Ice with fresh lemon juice) before going home for lunch. And OMG! Lunch were YUMMY!!! (And so were all that followed) His sister made the Ragu using the tomatoes they have in their garden and it was SOOO different from the one you get from the supermarket! And with CHEESEEEEEEE, it became irresistible! The pasta was followed by a second course, then meat and pastries.. YUMMY!!!!!! I was so full and food are actually pushing down the drain right after lunch… *wink wink*

We planned to go to the beach for a walk, so we took the car but it has little gas left. Everything was going fine until Giuseppe added diesel instead of petrol to the car. Luckily he realized what he did immediately, but 2 liters of diesel were already in the tank…

…………I was speechless…..

Bad luck seems to follow us, well, ME.

He called his brother to get a pipe, so he can ‘sucks’ the diesel out. What a ‘genius’ idea. And of course, it didn’t work! After a lot of comments from the petrol guy, the mechanics and Piero, he finally decided to put 20 liters of petrol to dilute the diesel. If they say it won’t be a problem, then no problem it is!

It was already 4 when we got to the seaside. Wind was blowing strong, another bad sign. We stayed at his uncle’s house for a while, unable to decide if we are still going to the beach in the case, in the end, we did.

I bet they were blowing at least 70km/hr when it was strong….. we were laying on the beach and weren’t able to open our eyes.. I had fun though. At least I’m in good company. *wink wink*
Evening in the summer here means people watching in San Leone. I met up my colleague Tiziana who was there too with the guy she’s dating. They left very soon. Me and Giuseppe then meet up Salvatore. We were there people watching till 3 in the morning…
