Last day in Sicily...

WEDNESDAY
The last day of my summer vacation..

We head to Valley of Temples (VALLE DEI TEMPI) right after lunch. Being the MUST SEE of Agrigento, I can’t leave without visiting it. We were lucky to find the last parking place available. After about 20mins staying in-line under the sun, we finally got the ticket.

The Valley of Temples, where the Greek heritage in Agrigento is found. We found ourselves walking the path of which the greece’s walked almost 2 thousand years ago, imagining them in their white robe like Hercules, or Troy, or Alexander as you preferred (Imagining sexy Greece looking like Brad Pitt and Colin Ferrell…hehehe, or Angelina Jolie) The sun was burning on top of our head, but me at least, doesn’t care much about that…

We were taking pictures crazily, exactly like a tourist! One here with the view of the city beside the olive tree, another one there with the temple as background. We even climb into the tombs and what seem to be their bedrooms. Giuseppe was so excited that he crossed the fence to climb up the highest ‘bedroom’ holes while we heard someone shouting “NON SI PUO FARE COSI! NON SI PUO!!” (No you can’t do this! You can’t!!) We turned around, and there she is. An Asian middle aged lady who is perhaps a Japanese or Korean, with her husband? And son? “NON SI PUO! MALEDUCATO! NON SI PUO” she continued shouting….”Sono nato qui, cresciuto qui! Faccio quello che mi pare!!” (I was born here, grown up here, I’m going to do what I like!) responded Giuseppe. (Which is quite true because until years ago, there wasn’t any entrance fees. His grandfather was born right there and there were residence until 10 years ago. He used to come with the school and have picnic on the stones…. ) It was funny to look at them.. eheh… and that such an amazing historical site was abandoned till recently and now it suddenly became a gold mine, cashing in million euro every day.

It was too hot to stay there, on a deserted hill so we then decided to head to the sea, and have my very last bath in the sea, cool down a bit our body temperature and end my summer 2006.

Back to his house, spinach risotto and oven baked chicken were waiting for us…

I left his place around 16.30 to catch the train at 17.20. His parents prepared some prickled pear for me to eat during the journey, and I got a magazine at the station.. Almost 21 hours of train ride, I think I will survive.

END OF MY SUMMER VACATION 2006
